Judge Wallace didn’t read vows next.
He told a story.

Elena’s breath caught. She stared at the floor for a heartbeat, then lifted her eyes.

A murmur passed through the room.
Matthew looked at Elena, confused. She felt her pulse in her ears. This wasn’t what they’d discussed.

The room stilled.
